How To – Mastering Metal
In this how-to I explain how I approach mastering of my metal songs. I have quite a few mastering effect chains but most of them are a little bit tricky and/or include external effects. The one in the video is the “easiest chain to follow”.
I explain what rules a mix must follow before it comes to mastering and finally I step through every plugin in the effect chain of the mastering channel.

  1. A quick couple of questions:
I’m using Asio4All and I’m trying to do a screen cap of Studio One with
Snagit 12. How do you setup your Audio outs to use Asio4All? Apparently
    Snagit can’t use Asio4all.

  2. Thanks for posting this. Really helping with mastering a new release of my
    1 man outfit: Crashtackle

  3. 1:07 come on man steinberg doesn’t do more updates because doesn’t need it
and it is super stable( i have been using cubase since cubase 5 and now
8Pro and i actually dont remember to have crash or a freeze). taking in
consideration that steinberg is actually pretty innovative and have one of
the best algorithm codes written for music production, we should be pretty
grateful because without steinberg the evolution of all daw’s would be..i
dont know where, i just had to make my point across. besides that very nice
video and nice tips, thanks for that, cheers and thumbs up

  4. First of all, you can get reaper for free, second. Sonar is way netter than
reaper , in fact sonar is the best program on the market

  5. I followed everything you said to do, but now my lead solo is clipping like
crazy. Although, the channel doesn’t show that it is clipping, I can hear
it. Any way for me to resolve this?

  6. Reaper doesn’t kill Sonar or Cubase. Its a matter of personal preference.
it all depends on what your “Needs” are. Im a PC man myself, but if I had
to pick the best DAW, all around, it would be Logic for MAC. I’ve used a
lot of different DAW’s and I find Logic to be one of the most intuitive,
productive user friendly Work stations. Im a Sonar user personally and I
love it. Back to the quality of this video..Great job. I appreciate the
    tips and knowledge. Thank you.

  7. Great work on this channel. You got skills. Let me know when you upload new
videos, maybe we can help in some way.

  8. good and interesting tutorial, good to see another’s methods. the clipping
that can occur after a brick wall limiter are called intersample peaks
which can rear their ugly head especially when bouncing down to compressed
formats like mp3. using a true peak limiter can help with this but you
still need to set your ceiling below zero. G clip is not really a limiter
but a clipper – it cuts or rounds off the waveform peaks rather than
reducing their overall amplitude. it can sound more transparent than a
    limiter.
