  1. hey, i have a strong like for computers and i at first i wanted to major in computer engineering. but its not something i love. the school i wanted to go to is about 10,000 dollars more per year than the school with engineering. my parents are pushing their agenda really hard for me to go the school with engineering but i feel like i wont enjoy it because my hearts not in it. my heart is in flim related things and in my schools majors list it says, “Digital Media: film, radio, tv” and i thought that since film related things is something i love then i go that route and major in it. should i listen to my parents and go to the school with engineering? or should i follow my heart and go to the other school with the major i want to do?

Now I have a question that I was expecting to get answer in this video… In what way (if any) you think Advertising students or graduates fit in this new industry????????

  3. what are the websites and courses that you learned from, or what are your techniques . I am passionate about social and digital media but i don’t feel like they need to be studied as a major but gained as a skill .help, i need an instant answer .

  4. Hey there! Just interested in where you get your social media growth techniques from? I’m not sure where to find this stuff besides checking out Gary Vaynerchuk’s work. I appreciate your channel a lot!

  5. You can’t do a major in Social media. Its would be just a tiny part of communications or marketing diploma or degree.

You can do short certificates from community colleges.

Digital media is just a catch all name for the old COMMUNICATIONS area Film/Radio-TV/multimedia websites etc.
So the diploma/degree would be communication/ mass communication, communication studies etc. obviously its an ARTS area.

All these areas used to be totally distinct until high speed internet and instant video,. All these areas collapsed and melded and folded into each other and is now called “digital media” and you have everyone any anyone working in it.

Social media is part of marketing.

Good luck in the COMMUNICATIONS area as its highly volatile and competitive. What you dont know going in is that you will be competing with every Tom Dick and Mary, and mary cat’s if it can press a start and stop button on recording devise, and anyone who can write a decent sentence.

Who you will be competing with for jobs:
    People who study in:
Film area, Radio is dead so TV (or whats left of it), Theatre, Advertising, Journalism, Marketing (now)
Any Art School people – (fine arts, graphic design, etc. web design) , English majors and regular Arts people like sociology, history etc.
get into marketing instead if you are interested in a communications area. Or go into communication and make sure you have heavy duty computer skills and classes in Analytics.
Its an unforgiving area unless you already have connections.

  6. so what you need for this career. i see ads want marketing, communications or pr degree.

i donèt want to do a second degree.

  7. I combined this type of degree with a business minor and it’s been good to me so far. Tons of internship opportunities with really cool start-ups. You won’t be working at places like KPMG, Goldman Sachs, or any big business monsters, but many companies are looking into people with creativity+analytics. Just my two cents

  8. what did you do differently to get the Instagram up from the hundreds to thousands? Just cause this is the career I am wanting to pursue in. thank you ?

  9. Would you consider going to school for digital media and web design? If time doesn’t permit you to learn on your own?

  10. what are some good requirements for a digital media manager? Like should i take a community college course and making visuals and what not and also communications or marketing degree?

  11. For someone just starting do you think its a good idea to get some sort of certification for credibility or do you think its better to just learn on your own

  12. My daughter is already in school majoring in computer science. She declared a minor in digital communications. She’s almost finished with college (next year), and will start her youtube channel this summer. Is she on the right path? BTW…”older people”. (salty!!!)

  13. Is it possible to get a job in the film or animation industry with a Digital Media degree? I’m a little worried because most of my required classes are coding based and I truly HATE coding with the grieving passion. My adviser expects me to get a programming/coding based job, but that’s not what I had in mind. All I want is a job editing professional videos OR making animations (cartoons). So tell me, did I pick the wrong major?

  14. you said something like, most employees work and then jump ship to get a higher paying gig bc companies have stopped giving raises. I’d love to hear more about that.

  15. are there jobs in digital media that are based more on technical areas rather than marketing?

  16. I took engineering at my technical school 17 im 18 just graduated and im majoring in and practice digital media programs like adobe its cool and alot more funner than engineering.

  17. I WANT A DEGREE IN DigitalMarketing and EngineeringTechnology and GraphicDesign commmunications

  18. I CAN DO IT ALL . I DO A LITTLE GRAPHIC DESIGNING AS WELL.I have an Entreprenurial aspect of being a freelancer.

  19. How demanding is the job? Is it possible to work for more than one company at time?
